Prof. Dr. Tahar Benhidjeb

Biography

Prof. Benhidjeb completed his medical degree at the CHARITÉ – Medical University Center, Berlin, Germany in 1986. He then obtained his post-doctoral Habilitation and Ph.D. from the Humboldt-University, Berlin, Germany in 1996. EXPERIENCE With more than 30 years of experience, Prof. Benhidjeb has worked as Consultant at the University Medical Center CHARITÉ, Berlin and University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. Before joining Danat Al Emarat Hospital as Head of Surgery, he was during 5 years Chairman of Surgery and Deputy Medical Director at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi where he performed more than 2000 surgical procedures. One of his primary clinical focus is the development and implementation of new minimally invasive surgical procedures in abdominal and thyroid surgery and innovative scarless surgery, in particular transvaginal cholecystectomy and transoral thyroidectomy. In General Surgery, his main field is thyroid/parathyroid surgery, breast surgery, and laparoscopic surgery for colon/rectum disorders, both benign and cancerous conditions. Prof. Benhidjeb is also Director of the New European Surgical Academy (NESA) in Berlin, Germany. He has published more than 150 scientific articles and 20 book chapters and he is an author of more than 250 congress presentations. Prof. Tahar is laureate of an Award of the American Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS), USA and Adjunct Professor of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) of the Russian State University.
