Biography

I am a renowned eye Surgeon and specialises in diagnosis and surgeries of the vitreous, retina and macula (retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity etc.). I am a pioneer in intravitrealLucentis / Eylea / Ozurdex and microincisionalvitrectomy surgery (MIVS) using 23, 25 and 27gauge vitrectomy system. i am the first to introduce scleral buckling for management of retinal detachments in retinopathy of prematurity in UAE in 2003, and intravitrealantiVEGF injections of active ROP in 2008. In 2006, i was the first to perform combined half-fluence photodynamic therapy and intravitreallucentis injection for wet age-related macular degeneration in the gulf region. In 2010, i was credited as the first surgeon in UAE to perform lens-sparing vitrectomy for Stage IV retinopathy of prematurity. I am also one of the first retinal surgeons to perform 25 and 27-gauge vitrectomy for treatment of complex retinal detachments and for treatment of vitreoretinal complications of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. I am well versed with microincisional cataract surgery with implantation of foldable lenses including premium lenses. i have performed over 2000 cataract surgeries (phacoemulsification) and over 5000 posterior segment surgeries including combined phaco-vitrectomies.
