Biography
Mariapaola Barbato received PhD from the University of Rome Sapienza. Over the years she has gained research and teaching experience in different countries, including Singapore, Italy, Canada and UAE. My research focuses on visual processing, attention and perception, including food perception, and on social cognition including emotion recognition, trustworthiness and mental states attribution, as well as the role of early visual processing in perceiving emotional states. Part of my research aims at testing the malleability of these cognitive processes through new computerized treatments designed to enhance cognition through brain plasticity. She has worked with healthy populations as well as with clinical populations, which in turn provide a strong foundation to study the impact of abnormal neurodevelopment of key neural structures involved in attention, perception, and social cognition. She has joined Zayed University in Fall 2017.
