Biography
Michael started working in fresh produce as a factory operative whilst at school and university, in a retail-packing onion and brassica factory. Over the last twenty years he has progressed through various roles including production supervision, print room and QA. He spent 7 years working as the Technical Manager in a vegetable processing company, where they primarily peeled, diced and sliced onions and carrots for companies such as Bakkavor, Northern Foods and Freshtime UK. This role saw him gain and then maintain the Company BRC certification and develop an extended product range through NPD. This company built a third production area to process a range of other root vegetables and brassicas for the food service industry, and for 6 months Michael ran the entire production and technical functions for the business. He moved to Greenshoots in 2008 and took up the position of Quality Manager, responsible for product safety, legality and quality for the leek operation.This challenging role includes the procurement of imported material and overseas grower visits, maintenance of BRC and organic certification and the running of the factory QMS system and QA function.Michael is trained in HACCP, IOSH and Business Improvement Techniques. He is also a Learning Champion and has recently qualified as a Waitrose Farm Assessor.
