Biography
Peter leads the ABHI which is the largest industry association in the UK for medical technology, representing approximately two thirds of the sector by sales volume. ABHI works with numerous organisations across the UK, driving operational efficiencies for the NHS and advancing patient access to high quality, innovative healthcare. Domestically, Peter is heavily embedded in a number of government work streams - he currently sits on the Life Science Industrial Strategy Board leading the industries input into this critical piece of work. He also sits on the HealthTech and Medicines Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN Board) and the DIT Trade Sector group and EPSRC Advisory Group. From the inception of the Academic Health Science Networks (AHSN’s), Peter has been involved in scoping their remit and sat on the initial Appointment Board. He has been interim Chair of the Greater Manchester AHSN and currently leads work to enhance collaboration between ABHI members and the national network of AHSNs. In 2014, Peter chaired the Health Economy work stream of the London Health Commission, established by the Mayor of London and Lord Ara Darzi and in 2013/14 was the Chair of the NHS Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) that helps connect public sector challenges with innovative ideas from industry. In addition to these Peter has held positions on a vast number of cross government, NHS and Industry Initiatives and as Vice Chair of the Thackery Medical Museum he was able to develop the story of our industry with the public. Peter is also a member of the Chairman of NHS’s England Board Committee Conflicts of Interest Task and Finish Group. On a European Level, Peter is the Chair of the National Association Network (NAN) and sits on the MedTech Europe Board that works across all European Countries. Internationally, Peter is engaged with UK government on many levels to promote UK plc and assist UK companies to export. He is currently leading the growth of ABHI’s US strategy. Peter has 35 years’ experience in sales, marketing and general management in the UK and across Europe and as a non-executive director of early stage companies.
