Biography
Colin Grant was appointed Lecturer in Medical Engineering in 2013, and moved to Faculty of Life Sciences in 2017, taking up a Lectureship in Biophysics and Bio-imaging. Colin is a graduate from University of Bradford, obtaining a first class honours BEng in Medical Engineering in 2001 and an MPhil in 2003. He obtained his PhD in Biological Physics from University of Manchester working on botanical biofilms. He worked for three years in the Astbury Centre, University of Leeds working on collagen/amyloid fibrils; followed by one year at University of Leeds, School of Physics, working on the biophysics of retina and macular hole formation/closure. Colin has been a module leader on a number of different modules, including Implant design & Technology, Healthcare Technology, Cell & Tissue Biology, Technology Mathematics, Nano-Science & Nano-Medicine and Imaging His background has been predominantly investigating the nano-science and nano-mechanics of biological soft matter. He has been researching using atomic force microscopy (AFM), nanoindentation, ellipsometry, small angle neutron scattering and contact angle goniometry.
