Biography
Alongside my teaching at Central, I work as a theatre / performance maker and actor trainer in various contexts. Having initially trained in Monica Pagneux’s studio with Phillipe Gaulier and with Teatro Pirequa, a training company at the Théâtre du Soleil (both in France), I went onto work with Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards at their Workcenter in Italy for three years in the 1990s. During this time I realised the level of commitment required to exploring psycho - physical performance and actor training at the highest level. Since then I have been fortunate to explore actor / performer centred creativity, making work, for example with Meredith Monk, Guillermo Gómez–Peña (both US), Helen Chadwick, Mkultra Performance Collective, Moon Fool at Trestle Theatre, Man Act, The Llanarth group – and Phillip Zarrilli), and with Dan Canham’s Still House project (all UK). From 2004 - 2014 I was a core member of the award winning Polish ensemble theatre, Song of the Goat. The company developed a unique performer training process called co-ordination, exploring the actor’s psychophysical work in a heightened performance style with a strong sense of musicality. We also ran an MA in Acting with Manchester Metropolitan University from Wroclaw in Poland, on which I taught over 8 years.
