Biography
I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and developed as a career as a soloist, repetiteur, and orchestral and chamber musician, and as a conductor, orchestrator and musical director in theatre. During a long association with the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, I established a reputation as an advocate of the works of Stephen Sondheim. In additional to many regional, West End and international theatre credits, I orchestrated and conducted the world and Broadway premieres of The Pirate Queen and conducted the European premiere of Adam Guettel's The Light In The Piazza. Most recently, I was musical director for the award-nominated production of Sondheim's Company at the Capitol Theatre, Manchester, and musical supervisor and orchestrator of the 2105/16 Royal Exchange Theatre production of Into The Woods. Special areas of interest include theatre orchestration and sacred renaissance choral music.
