Biography
Dr Lorenza Gianfrancesco is an Associate lecturer in the History Department. She is also a Research Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London, and has previously taught at Royal Holloway, University of London; Goldsmiths, University of London; the Institute of Advanced Study, University of London; and Reading University. I am a historian working on early modern southern Europe. My research focuses on the political, social, cultural and intellectual history of Naples and southern Italy. My interests include the Renaissance, the Counter-Reformation, Republic of letters, academies, propaganda and dissent in the Kingdom of Naples. I have worked on the multicultural urban dimension of Naples and Sicilian cities such as Palermo and Messina. With their Muslim, Christian and Jewish communities as well as established groups coming from various areas such as Spain, Flanders, France, Poland and England, Naples and Palermo constitute important case studies in the field of early modern city studies.
