Biography
Sophie is an Associate Lecturer in Psychology. Sophie enjoys teaching students and lectures and leads workshops on a variety of modules on the BSc Psychology and BSc Sports and Exercise Psychology degrees at the University of Chichester. Her research interests are around developing ‘child-friendly’ interventions to increase children’s attainment, interest, and intentions to pursue non-gender typical subjects, with a particular focus on encouraging young girls to pursue STEM subjects and careers. Sophie graduated with a First Class degree in BSc (Hons) Psychology from the University of Chichester in 2014. After graduating, Sophie completed a Widening Participation in Higher Education internship and Advanced Music Performance Certificate (Bassoon) at the University of Chichester. In 2015 Sophie was awarded a full bursary to study part-time for a PhD. She is being supervised by Dr Sue Churchill (Director of Studies), Dr Esther Burkitt, and Dr Sue Bentham. Her PhD involves exploring the effects of writing and drawing self-affirmations on stereotype threat, young children’s academic performance and future career choices.
