Biography
"Weidong Li is a Professor in Manufacturing. After he gained his PhD from the National University of Singapore, he worked at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, Bath University and Cranfield University as a researcher and academic before he came to Coventry in 2007. Professor Li’s research areas include Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Rapid Prototyping (RP), Manufacturing Planning and Sustainable Manufacturing. In the past decade, he has been working in these research areas to carry out various research and development projects, sponsored by the European Commission, EPSRC, Technology Strategy Board, A*Star of Singapore, and industries. From 2010, as Project Coordinator, Work Package Leader or Researcher, he has been working for FITMAN, SpinOff, CASES, CAPP-4-SMEs, CAP4COM, CASSANDRA, GREENet and industrial projects, through which extensive academic and industrial networks in UK, Europe and the world have been developed. He has been well-recognised in international academic societies. His research publications include five books (Monograph and Edited books by the World Scientific Publisher, Springer, IEEE and Trans Tech Publications), four book chapters, and 100 research papers in well-established international journals/conferences. Professor Li was the recipient of the Norman A. Dudley Award of the prestigious International Journal of Production Research, the Best Paper Awards of the CIRP-sponsored International Conference of Digital Enterprise Technology (UK) and International Conference of Systematics, Cybernetics and Informatics (USA). He is Guest Editor of a number of Special Issues in well-established international journals such as Computers in Industry, Concurrent Engineering: Research and Applications, Journal of Networks and Computer Applications, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, amongst others.At Coventry University, Professor Li has been the Course Manager of the BEng Virtual Engineering from 2008 to 2012, and he and colleagues developed a rapid prototyping laboratory to support the course. He has also established the Advanced Digital Manufacturing Research Group, and successfully developed cooperation with a number of research and business units at the University to carry out joint research and industrial projects."
