Biography
Shane graduated from the RAF College Cranwell in Lincolnshire UK in 1981 and trained as a pilot until 1983 when he began his Supply Chain Management career. Over the next 17 years, he worked throughout the Supply Chain in the UK and overseas from first-line supply support through Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) to depot storage and procurement. He held management posts in: warehousing, stock control, inventory planning, software development of Logistics Information Systems (IS), fuels management and Land, Sea & Air transport. In 1993 Shane received a citation for pioneering inventory optimisation in the UK MoD and by 1995 he had graduated from Exeter University with an MSc in Logistics Engineering; his dissertation was: “A comparative analysis of optimisation techniques for determination of logistics support resource requirements”. After graduation, Shane worked for the, newly-elected, administration of President Mandela with the “New” South African National Defence Force. Shane developed, implemented and managed a national IS support system that increased operational performance at reduced cost. He was subsequently awarded Personal Commendations from the Chiefs of both the South African Air Force and the South African National Defence Force.

Shane's research activities are focused on the provision of academic advice to Government, Defence and Scientific organisations.
