Biography

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Simon holds executive responsibility for a School hosting pan-University expertise in water and design; energy and power; environmental technology and agrifood. His responsibilities include strategic planning, oversight of postgraduate teaching and research and thought leadership. An authority on risk management, Simon has been developing improved approaches to the governance of environmental risks since 1987. His contributions reconcile societal unease about pollution with organisational responsibilities for its reduction and safe management in the long-term, with improved outcomes for public and environmental health. Simon’s scholarship has been to the practice of environmental engineering, risk management, policy analysis and corporate risk governance. Professor Pollard has led the integration of Cranfield’s environmental sustainability offer. Our take on the low carbon, resource efficiency agenda, “Science for the Green Economy”, brings together our technology and management expertise into a single authoritative voice, supported by a seminar series for practitioners in the City.

Research Interest

Dr. Simon's recent research examines organisational competencies in risk management, especially within the international water sector as it responds to calls for sustained service levels under conditions of constrained access to finance, climate change and water scarcity.
