Biography
Dr Xu received BEng and MEng degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Zhejiang University of Technology in China. He obtained his PhD from the University of Southampton working on damage tolerance characterisation of high strength airframe aluminium alloys. Prior to his current appointment as the Senior Lecturer in Strcutures at Cranfield University, Dr Xu was the Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Structures at the University of Hertfordshire from February 2004 to January 2016. Dr Xu had three years industrial experience working as the Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Design Engineer at Airbus UK from March 2001 to February 2004. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford from August 1996 to August 1997 and post-doctoral research assistant at the University of Oxford from October 2000 to March 2001. Dr Xu also had nine years teaching experience at the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in China.

Dr. Xu's research focuses on Aerospace Structures, Aircraft Design, Airworthiness, Lightweighting & Crashworthiness, Aerospace Materials.
