Biography
During the academic year I am the Director of the Academic Language and Communication (ALC) courses. These courses provide academic language and literacy training to students from across the University. A range of courses are offered in all three terms and include collaborations with Colleges, CEEC, Counselling, Widening Participation and the University Library. My other key role is as Director of the Centre’s summer Pre-sessional programmes. Every year, we welcome some 600 international students for intensive academic language and literacy training to prepare them for life in their Durham department. In 2015 I was appointed as an assessor for the BALEAP accreditation scheme. I am an experienced external examiner and have given a number of talks and presentations at BALEAP and IATEFL events on issues related to EAP management, curriculum and materials development. I was made Senior Fellow of the HEA in 2016.
Research Interest
My teaching responsibilities include EAP in various contexts, delivering sessions on MA modules in Global Englishes and Teaching EAP and supervising MA dissertations
