Biography
She is the Director for Postgraduate Studies in the School for Medicine, Pharmacy & Health having joined the then School for Health in 2002 as a research fellow and manager. Her current remit is taught postgraduate programmes, both formal academic programmes and bespoke CPD for health professionals and NHS Trusts. The primary theme of her career is improving health and healthcare for people who struggle to access healthcare services whether because of developmental disabilities, mental illness, or socioeconomic circumstances. Sharyn has experience in the Australian public service, the charitable sector (primarily health-related charities) in Australia and India, Christian ministry, and higher education. Between 2009 & 2011 she was a co-director of Durham University’s Project Sri Lanka. She has a multidisciplinary academic background with degrees in economics, health services management, organisational change in healthcare, and higher education teaching and learning. She also has trained as a personal counsellor.
Research Interest
Sharyn retains an interest in whole systems approaches to the organisation, delivery and evaluation of health care services however her current primary research interest is gender awareness amongst students and health professionals and its influence on their capacity as future advocates for reducing health and social-economic inequalities.
