Chitra Balakrishna

Biography

Chitra Balakrishna is an academic, author, futuristic technology and open source enthusiast. She has over 13 years of experience spanning across academia and industry in the areas of Data Networking, Mobile Communications,Technologies and Applications. In the past she has held academic positions at the University of Glamorgan, now University of South Wales for eight years before joining Edge Hill University in January 2013. While at Glamorgan, she has spear-headed the setting up of an open source next-Generation networking lab in collaboration with industrial partners such as Orange and France Telecom. She has successfully designed and managed a unique Master’s degree course on Mobile Telecommunications Management and she has been a core member of prestigious European and ERDF funded research projects. Chitra’s areas of expertise lie in Next-generation Mobile technologies and applications and futuristic applications based on Internet-of-Things. She has managed and authored a popular book on IP Multimedia Subsystem by the John Wiley publications in 2009 and has several academic publications to her credit. Chitra has co-founded the prestigious international academic conference in the area of next-gerenation mobile applications, services and technology (http://www.ngmast.com ) and she has been successfully hosting two international workshops since 2009, NGNOPS(http://www.comp.glam.ac.uk/NGMAST09/ngnops/) and I-TASC ( http://www.ngmast.com/workshops). She has delivered several academic tutorials on mobile applications and technologies nationally and internationally.
