Donald Dunbar

Biography

Donald received his biology training at the University of Dundee with a BSc in the Department of Biochemistry followed by a PhD in Biochemical Medicine, studying mitochondrial diseases. He then moved to the MRC Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh for a postdoc and then into the pharmaceutical industry with Organon Laboratories, as a bioinformatician in target discovery. Donald then led bioinformatics at the Queen’s Medical Research Institute at the University of Edinburgh for ten years before moving back to industry, as head of bioinformatics for Sistemic, a small biotech company in Glasgow. Donald moved to Edinburgh Genomics as Bioinformatics Manager for the Genome Science division. His main focuses are on streamlining the data quality control procedures and helping the bioinformatics team to remain at the cutting edge of genome science.
