Biography
Dr Kevin Chalmers is Subject Group Leader for Software Engineering in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. Kevin completed his PhD, "Investigating Communicating Sequential Processes for Java to Support Ubiquitous Computing", in 2009. His work focused on the use of dynamic concurrency models to support the emerging trends in ubiquitous and pervasive computing which has now led to the area of Internet of Things. Kevin's first degree is in Software Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University, where he was awarded a first class honours, the class medal, and the BCS Student Prize in 2005. He was also a finalist in the Young Software Engineer of the Year Awards at ScotSoft 2005. In 2009 Kevin was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Computing to develop a new degree in Games Development. Kevin acted as programme leader for the course, helping deliver Creative Skillset accreditation in 2016. Kevin has also acted as Programme Director for the Software Engineering suite of programmes, and helped launch the School of Computing's first programme in Computing Science. Kevin has been a reviewer for the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) Early-Career Early-Start Research grant funding board He also sits on the BCS Membership Board, BCS Edinburgh Branch, and the Scottish Qualification Authority's Sector Panel for Computing. For BCS Edinburgh, Kevin acts as Education Liaison Officer, and has supported funding for The First Lego League, IT4U, and the Sydney Michaelson Memorial Lecture.
