Biography
Dion has a rich and varied background, including vast experience in music events management and consultancy and has worked as an independent designer and art director for 11 years. With a first-class masters degree in graphic design, Dion has great experience in the development and delivery of an idea. His work is research based, thoughtful and ideas led. A collaborative approach to his studio practice has enabled opportunities to work with film directors, sound designers, writers, poets, artists, photographers, illustrators, animators and musicians. The intersection of graphic design and other disciplines continues to play an important role in his work. Recent and ongoing research projects include: The Marine Debris Typeface Project; a study of found local vernacular letterforms, part of an ongoing investigation info Type and Place. An investigation into understanding and developing new ways to document and communicate the design process. Plus, research surrounding acts of autobiographical, anonymous and generative reading and the craft of deciphering & translating signs. Dion has been teaching on the undergraduate award since 2011 and has also worked as part of the academic development team for new courses within the school. He continues to maintain his own professional practice, providing creative direction and design for communication and identity projects.
