Alex Harrison

Biography

Dr Alex Harrison is a Post-Doctorial Researcher at IBM Research and is currently part of the IBM Research presence at the Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC) research campus, Daresbury Laboratory. His work is focused on high-performance computing systems, in particular the porting, optimisation and profiling of gpu-accelerated applications to aid scientific progression in the chemical industry. He has a strong interest in the development of automated tools and workflows to make HPC systems more accesible to a wider audience. Alex received his Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in a collaborative project between the University of Edinburgh and Shell Global Solutions. These studies focused on the physical adsorption behaviours of complex alkanes in porous media within combustion engines. From his Ph.D, Alex's main areas of expertise are in adsorption and porous media characterisation.
