Biography

PHD, MSc (Health Care Education), Post Graduate Certificates in Teaching and Learning with Technology & Health Studies, BSc (Hons) Community Health (District Nursing), RGN, B Ed, QN Julie undertook her RGN training in 1987 at the North Staffordshire College of Nursing and Midwifery and has since worked across both North Staffordshire and Cheshire, in a variety of roles in both primary and secondary care. Julie's secondary care experience focused on Intensive Care and High Dependency areas and her primary care experience as both a District Nurse and a Discharge Liaison Nurse throughout Stoke-on-Trent. Prior to joining the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Julie worked as a District Nursing Sister for South Stoke Primary Care NHS Trust and represented her colleagues as a Nurse Representative on the Primary Care Trust Executive Board for four years. Julie was employed at Keele University School of Nursing and Midwifery in 2003, initially as a Clinical Skills Lecturer and then, from 2006, as a Lecturer in the Adult Field. Julie is the Award Lead for the Specialist Community Nursing (District Nursing) BSc and PGDip. In October 2015, Julie took on the role of Director of Postgraduate Programmes. Julie also delivers sessions across all fields of the nurse curriculum and within Continuing Professional Development modules.  Julie has particular interest in community nursing practice; she holds an honorary contract with Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust and regularly accompanies pre-registration students on patient visits whilst they are on placement.
