Biography
To date my group have constructed two detailed atlases describing the expression and function of all GPCRs in human pancreatic islets and human adipose tissue, and a number of additional GPCR atlases are under construction. I am currently supervising two very talented and hard working members of my group: PhD student Ross Hawkes and postdoc Patricio Atanes. We are working hard to characterise the function of a number of orphan GPCRs and GPCR peptide ligands in pancreatic islets and to understand their role in diabetes and metabolic disease. Our research has resulted in the initiation of a number of industry collaborations with the aim of evaluating these receptors and GPCR peptide ligands as novel drug targets for the treatment of diabetes and metabolic disease.
Research Interest
The identification and functional characterisation of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their peptide ligands in human tissues that are relevant for cardiovascular and metabolic disease.
