Arthur Brennan

Biography

"Arthur is a senior research lecturer in the Faculty, teaching and supervising BSc, MSc and PhD students. Arthur qualified as a registered general nurse in 1978 at Lewisham and Guy's Hospital working in the field of Orthopaedics. Two years later, he qualified as a registered mental health nurse at the Maudsley Hospital. He was then appointed as a charge nurse at the mother and baby unit and acute psychiatric ward in Bethlem Royal Hospital where he remained for five years before taking up the post of in-service training officer at Warlingham Park Hospital in 1985. He has also worked in the field of forensic psychiatry at Springfield University Hospital in south-west London. Between 1987-1991 Arthur completed an undergraduate degree in health studies and a postgraduate certificate in the education of adults at Surrey University, then in 1993 obtained a masters in health psychology from London's City University. In 2008 he gained his doctorate from Kingston University and has presented his doctorial work on 'Couvade Syndrome amongst fathers during gestation' at a number of conferences in the UK, Ireland, Spain and Canada, as well as giving several UK and international television interviews on his research investigating 'sympathy pregnancies' in men."
