Elizabeth Briten

Biography

"Elizabeth joined Kingston University in 1999 following roles as a deputy head teacher and class teacher/science coordinator in primary and junior schools. She has extensive experience of both primary teaching and lecturing within a higher education setting. Elizabeth is currently subject leader for primary science. She teaches across both the BA QTS and primary PGCE programmes, working on generic science core modules as well as the BA science specialism and PGCE masters level module. Prior to moving into education, Elizabeth qualified as a state registered nurse with the Leeds General Infirmary. She subsequently gained a BEd (Hons), a PgDip in science and relevant masters-level qualifications at Kingston University and Kings College London. The latter included a case-study based exploration of 'Student perceptions of the influence of school experience on the development of science pedagogic content knowledge'. In 2012 she became a member of the Teaching Agency's National Curriculum Science Expert Panel, the remit of which was to consider requirements and resources that will support ITT providers in preparing trainees to teach the new primary science curriculum from 2013."
