Biography
Clinical Research Fellow funded by the British Heart Foundation, working towards a PhD. My research is focusing on the genetic basis of congenital heart disease. I was awarded a Clinical Research Training Fellowship in 2013, funded by the British Heart Foundation, working towards a PhD. My research aims to identify novel genes responsible for congenital heart disease. I will be using techniques such as whole exome sequencing to identify genes that are important in heart development, and will study the function of these genes using cellular techniques and model organisms. Prior to taking up this research fellowship I was a Speciality Trainee in Clinical Genetics (2011-2013). I obtained Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2011. I have a clinical background in paediatrics and have developed a particular interest in dysmorphology and cardiovascular genetics. During my medical training I undertook a BSc in Genetics in Relation to Medicine, for which I gained 1st Class honours. My research involved a candidate gene approach to investigate genetic factors associated with susceptibility to malarial infection.
