Biography
Aline Gaus is a Lecturer in Sociology at the Department for Social Science. Previously, he has been a lecturer and course tutor in sociology at the University of Sheffield from 2010-2016 and worked extensively with international social science students. His academic background is in sociology, anthropology and political sociology and He received a PhD in Sociology from the University of Sheffield in 2016 for my ethnography on the Wootton Bassett repatriation rituals for fallen British soldiers. Before that, he gained a MPhil (equivalent) in Social Sciences from Humboldt Universitaet Berlin (2009), a MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2007), a BA (first class honours) in Sociology from the University of Hull (2006) and a DEUG in Sociology with Anthropology from the Universite de Strasbourg, France (2005). His current research interests are centred around issues of military death, ritualisation and memorialisation. He has previously worked on national identity, contemporary slavery and social policy issues.He is a member of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Centre for War and Peace Studies and on the European Institute Advisory Committee here at Hope.
