Biography
I joined the School in June 2014 and conduct vaccine epidemiology research at my base overseas, the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kenya. My background is one of clinical training in Paediatrics leading to award of a Fellowship of the West Africa Collge of Physicians in Paediatrics in 2005, as well as in epidemiology- obtained a MSc from the School in 2009 and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2012. Prior to joining the School, I worked as a Clinical Epidemiologist at the Medical Research Council Unit-The Gambia. My research interests and work at the MRCG were in TB Epidemiology.
Research Interest
My research interests are infectious diseases epidemiology specifically vaccine impact studies including assessments of indirect and non-specific effects of vaccines; assessments of crude and effective vaccine coverage, serological surveys of population immunity and innovative approaches to increasing vaccine coverage. I am a co-principal investigator and co-investigator respectively on the following vaccine effectiveness studies in Kenya-Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine Impact Study (PCVIS) and the Rotavirus Immunisation Programme Evaluation in Kenya (RIPEK) However, I still retain interest in TB Epidemiology- improving TB case finding in populations and understanding risk of disease and interactions with non communicable diseases like Type 2 diabetes.
