Biography
Background in languages, having graduated from Bristol with a literature-based degree in Russian and French. Following several years teaching English as a foreign language in Spain, returned to the UK to undertake postgraduate training in speech and language therapy. Qualified in 1993 from City University and worked in the NHS in Liverpool and London before joining the team in Manchester in 1999. Special interests include: learning disability; autism; non-verbal communication including challenging behaviour. Have always maintained clinical role either on a part time or an honorary basis. The teaching focus of my academic career was recently acknowledged by the award of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, in recognition of leadership and innovation in teaching at both Faculty and School levels.
