John Haskell

Biography

I hold a JD from the University of California Hastings, a LLM and PhD from the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies, and served as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Helsinki and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School's Institute for Global Law and Policy. Previous to Manchester, I held tenure-track positions at Durham University School of Law and Mississippi College School of Law, and visiting faculty and research roles at the International University College of Turin, Lille Catholic University, University of Cambridge, and the University of San Francisco. I served as the assistant director at the Institute for the Study of Political Economy (2010-2012) and the co-director of the MC School of Law International and Comparative Law Centre (2012-2016). In addition to my senior lecturer role at the University of Manchester School of Law, I currently am a faculty member of the Institute for Global Law and Policy (IGLP, Harvard Law School) and write a blog series at The Faculty Lounge about law schools.

Research Interest

My research currently focuses on the sociology of expertise and idea production within international law and governance. I am particularly interested in historic and contemporary analysis of the conceptual vocabulary and institutional management concerning interrelations between the dynamics of economics, law, religion and warfare. Outside of scholarship, I am especially interested in collaborative research and policy interests concerning the integration of military veternas into higher education and society.
