Biography
Director since 2002 (Independent) Ambassador Lader, 71, served from 2001 to June 2015 as non-executive Chairman of WPP plc, a global advertising and communications services company, which includes J. Walter Thompson, Ogilvy & Mather, Young & Rubicam, Hill & Knowlton, Grey Global and Burson-Marsteller, among other international marketing and media services companies. He also serves as a senior advisor to Morgan Stanley (a financial services company) and Palantir Technologies (a private analytic data technology company), and is a partner in the law firm of Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough. Ambassador Lader served as U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James from 1997 through 2001, and was Assistant to the President and White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. His former service includes as president of Sea Pines Company, executive vice president of Sir James Goldsmith’s U.S. holding company, and President of universities in Australia and South Carolina. He also serves on the boards of directors of AES Corporation (a global power company) and United Company RUSAL Plc (a global aluminum producer). Ambassador Lader is a member of the Board of Trustees of RAND Corporation, previously serving as vice chairman, as well as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds a B.A. from Duke University (Phi Beta Kappa), an M.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, completed graduate studies in law at Oxford University and has been awarded honorary doctorates by 14 universities and colleges.
