Biography
Senior Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Science and Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Trauma and Orthopaedics. Director of Training, NW Thames Higher Surgical Rotation in Trauma and Orthopaedics Interests in the prevention and management of early osteoarthritis, sports knee injuries, knee ligament and meniscal biomechanics. Also in orthopaedic surgical training and patient safety. Chinmay is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in sports, knee injuries and knee arthritis, performing cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscal operations, knee arthroscopy and knee replacement operations. Having completed a PhD in meniscal and ligament biomechanics from Imperial College in 2004, he was awarded the British Orthopaedic Association's Robert Jones Gold Medal, proxime accessit. This research influenced the technique of posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction used by surgeons. As senior lecturer at Imperial College Chinmay continues his research on: [1] cruciate ligament reconstruction, improving outcomes in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (anterolateral ligament biomechanics) [2]meniscal biomechanics (meniscofemoral ligaments) [3] meniscal replacement and prostheses, aspiring to improve the outcomes of sports injuries and early osteoarthritis for patients. [4] Training of orthopaedic surgeons using simulation [5] Cost effectiveness and patient safety in orthopaedics [6] Having been a professional cricketer, Chinmay coordinates cricket research at Imperial with the Marylebone Cricket Club, where he is cricket committee member,which he hopes will help shape international cricket for the future.
