Biography
I am a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Infectious Diseases. This means that I divide my time between clinical work and research. The clinical work takes place at St. Mary's Hospital and includes the care of children with complex infectious diseases. My major area of research is that of children with tuberculosis, specifically drug-resistant forms. I studied medicine at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Imperial College London and have carried out paediatric training in both the UK and Australia. Before clinical academia, I was an infantry officer in the British army, worked as a doctor for Médecins Sans Frontières in Côte d'Ivoire and spent time on an expedition in Patagonia. I undertook my PhD in Cape Town, studying drug-resistant tuberculosis in children, and along the way I have gained Diplomas in Tropical Medicine and Paediatric Infectious Diseases. In 2017 I will spend six months at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine in Harvard Unversity on a Fulbright Scholarship to look at strategies to combat drug-resistant tuberculosis in children.
