Biography
Following degrees in Pharmacology (BSc) and Public Health Research (MSc) and a period working in the University of Aberdeen's Health Services Research Unit, Kieran completed a PhD in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. His PhD involved an investigation of the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease in people with COPD using large electronic healthcare records. Current work has involved using data from the Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project (MINAP) to investigate management and outcomes for people with COPD after myocardial infarction; validation of the recording of acute exacerbations of COPD in the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD); investigating the relationship between acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) and risk of MI; and the natural history of AECOPD. Kieran also teaches on the Distance Learning MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
