Biography
I am interested in the structural biology and biochemistry of retroviral integration. Succesful retroviral replication relies strictly on the ability of the virus to insert a copy of its genetic information into the genome of the host. Modern structural techniques such as X-ray crystallography, NMR and electron microscopy allow to visualise this biochemical process in atomic detail. Understanding retroviral integration is a step towards effective treatment against viruses such as HIV or HTLV and provides opportunity for a deeper understanding of DNA recombination and host-pathogen interactions.
