Monsey Mcleod

Biography

Monsey McLeod is Lead Pharmacist for Medication Safety and Anti-infectives Research at Imperial College NHS Trust (ICHT), the Centre for Medication Safety and Service Quality (CMSSQ), and the NIHR Imperial Patient Safety Translational Research Centre (PSTRC). She is also Research Associate at the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance at Imperial College. Her role combines research, clinical, and education at ICHT to facilitate two-way translation between research, and practice and policy. Her research draws on human factors and behavioural sciences to explore factors influencing the effective use of medication systems on patient safety, and investigate interventions to reduce medication errors, facilitate effective antimicrobial stewardship, and increase efficiency. Her current projects include: studying various effects of implementing a hospital electronic prescribing and medication administration system on healthcare professionals’ workflow, patient interactions, and medication safety; designing and use of a mobile-enabled website that provides antimicrobial prescribing guidance to general practitioners (ongoing work with support from Public Health England). Other research areas include: antibiotic information seeking behaviour by patients; patient involvement in medication safety; design and use of technology (such as electronic prescribing and smartphone apps) to capture real-world data to facilitate decision-making; and secondary use of data for quality improvement. Monsey joined the CMSSQ and NIHR Imperial PSTRC in 2008, and completed a part-time PhD at the UCL School of Pharmacy (2009-2013). This led to a number of publications including author of a book chapter in “Safety in Medication Use” that was co-edited by Bryony Dean Franklin and Mary Tully. She joined the Centre for Infection Prevention and Management at Imperial College in 2013 and has continued her anti-infectives-related research as part of the Imperial NIHR HPRU in Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance that was established in April 2014.
