Biography
I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Division of Brain Sciences and Consultant Neurologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. My research work focusses on the cognitive deficits that are caused by Neurological conditions such as stroke and degenerative diseases, and developing treatments for these impairments. In particular, I am interested in disorders of attention and motivation, and the use of imaging techniques to understand how they are caused. My previous work looked at cognitive deficits in patients with damage to the right cerebral hemisphere, especially in the context of spatial neglect. The aim of understanding these problems is to improve therapeutic effectiveness and I am actively involved in the development and assessment of novel treatments. I have carried out trials of noradrenergic and dopaminergic stimulation in stroke patients with impaired attention, as well as exploring novel behavioural therapies in this population. I am now also applying findings from my previous work to the field of neurodegeneration, and am developing a trial of a novel add-on therapy for Alzheimer's Disease. Current and recent support for my research has come from the Wellcome Trust, the Academy of Medical Sciences, NIHR and the Biomedical Research Centre at Imperial College.
