Biography
Peter Goldstraw is Honorary Consultant Thoracic Surgeon to the Royal Brompton Hospital and Emeritus Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Imperial College London, UK. Professor Peter Goldstraw is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Edinburgh and England. After training in Scotland and South Africa he was appointed Consultant Thoracic Surgeon to the Royal Brompton Hospital in 1979. He has held consultant posts at University College Hospital, the Whittington Hospital, the Middlesex Hospital, Benenden Hospital and with the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. He has given over 400 lectures at International and National conferences, including the FG Pearson lecture on 2 occasions and the OT Claggett, Michael Boyd, Tudor Edwards, EP Richards and Robert Henderson Memorial Lectures. He has been awarded the Price Thomas Gold Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2004, a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Thoracic Oncology Group in 2006, Honorary membership of the ESTS in 2007, the Merit Award of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) in 2007 and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland in 2010.
