Peter Howitt

Biography

Peter is currently on secondment from the Department of Health as a policy fellow in the Centre for Health Policy at Imperial College. He has worked on health policy in the department for seven years, most recently leading work to expand Payment by Results (England’s DRG-based provider funding mechanism) into areas such as mental health and community services. Previous roles include writing and then implementing the ‘Our health, our care, our say’ White Paper and a spell as a ministerial speechwriter. In 2007 he went on secondment to NHS London where he worked on Healthcare for London ‘A Framework for Action’ with Lord Darzi. He has also contributed to Lord Darzi’s report, ‘High Quality Care for All’.
