Biography
Chana is a Clinical Research Fellow at The NIHR funded Centre for Patient Safety. He is supervised by Dr Sonal Arora, Dr Elaine Burns and Mr Omar Faiz. Prem graduated from The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Exeter in 2008. He completed his Core Surgical Training in Bristol and during this time completed an MSc in Surgical Sciences from The University of Edinburgh. Prem currently holds a National Training Number in General Surgery in The Severn Deanery. Outcomes in emergency general surgery remain poor with mortality rates of approximately 15% described following emergency laparotomy in The United Kingdom. Prem's thesis entitled 'Identifying Quality in the Delivery of Emergency General Surgery' aims to use a mixed methodology design, combining a series of inter-linked qualitative and quantitative studies to determine institutional factors that contribute to safe and high quality emergency care. This translational research ultimately aims to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.
