Biography
Dr Xiao-Ning Xu qualified in Medicine from Capital Medical University (Beijing) in 1984 and obtained a PhD in Clinical Immunology in 1992 from Flinders Medical Centre (Australia) and became the fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) in 1999. He then joined the group of Prof Sir Andrew J. McMichael at Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford. For the last 10 years Xiao-Ning served as Medical Research Council (MRC) Senior Clinical Scientist, project leader, and tenured programme leader at MRC Human Immunology Unit, Oxford University, where he led research projects involving immune correlates of protection against emerging infectious diseases including HIV, SARS, and avian influenza. In 2010, he joined Novartis as the Head of Novartis Vaccines Research China, Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics based in Shanghai, and is now the Chair professor in Human Immunology at the Imperial College of London based at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.
