Biography
Allan studied physics at Glasgow University before pursuing a successful 15 year career in sailing. He returned to university for a joint degree in physics and psychology before subsequently training as a teacher. He now teaches physics and science at Elgin Academy in NE Scotland, where he has been for 7 years. During this time he has spent 2 years on secondment as a Development Officer training Moray's primary and secondary staff in the use of ICT to support learning and teaching, working closely with staff and pupils in all of the authority's 48 schools. He has also worked with Education Scotland developing stellar physics staff support materials for the new Advanced Higher Physics qualification. Allan has had a lifelong fascination with space and science, and considers himself lucky to be able to bring this to bear on his chosen vocation. When not working he is likely to be found surfing, windsurfing, mountain biking, snowboarding or climbing.
