Biography
Angela graduated with a B Ed (first class) degree in education and is an experienced primary school teacher. She has also taught in the three-tier education system, where she held the post of Head of English in a middle school. In 2006, Angela moved into education consultancy, working for Newcastle upon Tyne Local Authority’s School Improvement Service, as an English Consultant. She worked extensively across Newcastle first, primary and middle schools, supporting school staff in the development of English teaching and learning. From 2006 until 2014 she delivered a regular and extensive programme of Continuing Professional Development training courses for teachers, subject leaders and school support staff. From 2008 – 2011 Angela worked as a regional consultant, with the responsibility of delivering the ‘Every Child a Reader’ national school improvement programme in three local authorities across the North East. Within this post, she qualified as a Teacher Leader for the internationally recognised ‘Reading Recovery’ intervention programme, and gained a Master’s degree in ‘Literacy Learning and Literacy Difficulties’ from the Institute of Education (University of London). She subsequently trained cohorts of teachers to deliver ‘Reading Recovery’ in their settings. Angela also gained qualifications to become an accredited trainer for ‘Boosting Reading at Primary’ (BR@P), ‘Fischer Family Trust Wave 3’ and ‘Talking Partners’ intervention programmes. Reading development remains an area of keen professional interest.
