Biography
Completed post registration programme (ENB 806 Nursing people with learning disabilities in the community) at Sheffield Hallam University in 1989. Worked as a community nurse in Sunderland until retirement from clinical practice in 2015. Awarded a Northern and Regional Health Authority Research Training Fellowship in 1991, employed as a senior research associate at Northumbria University and then Senior Lecturer/practitioner (Nursing) dividing time between clinical practice, research and higher education. I currently work part time as a senior lecturer and teach on the pre-registration nursing programme at Northumbria University.
Research Interest
creative media and distance learning in higher education; Sensory impairment in people who have learning disabilities; Quality assurance and clinical governance; The needs of children who have learning disabilities; Safeguarding vulnerable adults.
