Biography

Michelle comes from a background in Commercial Project Management and, having studied Building Project Management at Northumbria University for 5 years part time, has obtained a wealth of industrial experience. Projects that she has been involved in include; Newcastle Library, Silverburn Shopping Centre, Glasgow, Hilton Hotel, Liverpool Docks, numerous office developments nationwide and Building Schools for the Future projects in the North West, to name but a few. Having achieved a first class honours degree and having been awarded the Tolent Best Student Achievement Prize and the CIOB Certificate of Excellence, Michelle was inspired to change career and join the Project Management team in the Faculty of Engineering and Environment. This has enabled her to further her research interest into Collaborative Technology and its impact on working practices across organisational boundaries in the construction industry and embark on a PhD Externally, she is a member of the TG76 innovation debate “Construction is a low innovation sector” and participates in regular local meetings with the Association for Project Management (APM). She also is an active member of the BIM academy based at Northumbria University. Hobbies and interests include, my family, running, dance, dance fitness, music and fund raising for charities!

Research Interest

As a researcher and an educator in the field of project management Michelle’s interests lie in Collaboration/collaboration technology and Innovation in the construction industry and implications of this on organisational and managerial behaviour. She also has an interest in the soft skills and competencies needed by project managers to manage people in project orientated organisations both generically and in the construction industry. She is currently doing her PhD with Northumbria University where her research is grounded in the current BIM debate. More specifically her research is targeted towards providing management of SME construction firms with a framework supporting their growth in the area of BIM enabled collaboration and Integrated Project Delivery in consideration of workforce culture and supply chain integration.
