Biography
Qualifying in medicine at the London Hospital Medical College and obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, Professor Gale worked as a Junior Doctor at the Royal London Hospital. After becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, he became a Medical Research Council Clinical Training Fellow and undertook at Ph.D in molecular biology at the University of Leeds. Speciality training in Cardiology was undertaken principally at the Leeds General Infirmary, where Professor Gale was a Walport and later a NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer and then NIHR Clinician Scientist. He holds a Masters in Clinical Education and a Masters in Statistical Epidemiology.
Research Interest
Gale’s research interests include population-based studies of acute coronary syndromes, heart failure and arrhythmias. Presently, Professor Gale leads a research-active group comprising PhD and MD students and post-doctoral research fellows at the University of Leeds. Current research comprises a number of multi-centre and international prospective studies. Professor Gale has been awarded over £7M of research grants predominantly from the National Institute for Health Research and the British Heart Foundation.
