Biography
My interest in understanding others without making assumptions began when I lived in a village in Zambia. I still value that anthropological perspective, which gives me an insight into the role of culture in how individuals think. I became interested in psychotherapy through my own experiences as a client, and working with psychiatrists and psychologists in the NHS. My first experience of client work was through a psychosexual problems clinic at Guy's Hospital in London. Being openly gay was a cornerstone of my research as an academic anthropologist, and I continue as a gay affirmative therapist. As well as my individual and couples therapy with LGBT people I also volunteer for Islington Mind where I facilitate a group for asylum seekers who have fled to the UK because of persecution for their sexuality in their countries of origin.
