Biography
Catherine Booth qualified with a BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry with Molecular Biology from the University of Leeds in 1994 after which, she went on to do a PhD at the St James ICRF Cancer Medicine Research Unit. Her PhD thesis was centered around the study and identification of factors involved in tumour cell invasion in bladder cancer, and involved the development of a novel in vitro tumour invasion model. Following her PhD, she went on to work in the tissue engineering field; firstly, working with a multidisciplinary research group at the university of Leeds, developing tissue engineered solutions for heart valve replacement. Following this project, she went on to work in the medical device industry (Smith and Nephew, York, UK) working on the development of novel tissue repair techniques and leading the “Cartilage Stem Cell” project. In 2006 we relocated to Norfolk and she took a break from my research career to look after my family. During her time away from research she worked part-time in adult science education. She recently joined the Carding group at QIB, where she is currently retraining with a view to resuming my research career. She would very much like to work in the field of gut health in the future and am particularly interested in the study of OMV-cellular interactions.
