Biography
Dimitris Latousakis current research as a PhD student in Dr Nathalie Juge’s lab focuses on the glycosylation of surface proteins in gut commensal bacteria. In order to better understand how commensal bacteria adhere to their host, the aim of his project has been to characterise glycosylated surface proteins and the glycans that decorate them in Lactobacillus reuteri, a commonly used probiotic species. Prior to joining the institute, he studied Agricultural Biotechnology and graduated with an Award of Excellence from the Agricultural University of Athens. He then pursued a MSc. Degree in Molecular Medicine at the University of East Anglia, during which he carried out my dissertation project at the John Innes Centre, in Professor Rob Field’s lab. There, he worked on developing novel inhibitors of carbohydrate-active enzymes and that was the first time he exposed myself to the field of Glycobiology.
