Biography
Deputy to Keith Waldron, Research Leader, Exploitation of co-products and wastes. His current role is funded within the Food & Health ISP contributing to other projects as required in the area of biomass exploitation. Previous recent projects have included a desk-based study for Defra compiling evidence to define the sustainability of a healthy diet and the EU FUSIONS project contributing to the understanding, quantification and minimisation of household food waste. Under the FUSIONS project, he have contributed to new preliminary estimates of food waste across the EU-28 along with an assessment of the environmental impact of the food waste. In addition to LCA and laboratory-based experimental work, he have responsibility for preparation of project reports and equipment maintenance & training as required and was also a co-supervisor for a PhD student. He was also a key member of the Organising Committee for Total Food 2017 – an international conference on agri-food chain waste being held on the Norwich Research Park in November 2017 – and am responsible for group / project websites & social media presence.
Research Interest
His research concerns the application of life-cycle assessment approaches to evaluate the environmental impacts of proposed technologies within our research area. He was part of the EU REFRESH project , which aims to contribute significantly to the objective of reducing food waste across the EU by 30% and maximise the value from unavoidable food waste and packaging materials.
